Technology

Powered exoskeletons are wearable systems combining mechanics, onboard electronics and control software. This page describes the category in general terms, without attributing specifications to any specific model.

Mechanical structure

The structure transfers load between the body and the device's support points. Alignment between the mechanical axis and the anatomical centre of rotation is decisive for comfort and for the efficiency of the assistance.

Sensing

Inertial sensors, encoders and load sensors provide the data used to estimate gait phase and movement intent. The sensor combination varies with each manufacturer's architecture.

Control and software

The control system translates signals into torque commands within safety limits defined at design time. Operating modes and assistance levels are usually configurable.

Power

Removable batteries power actuators and electronics. Runtime depends on terrain, user mass, assistance level and ambient temperature — which is why we publish no figures without an official source.

Safety

Torque limits, safe shutdown, restricted range of motion and skin-contact-appropriate materials are requirements we assess when analysing any candidate technology.

Interoperability and data

Some systems export session data. Any processing of personal data in Brazil must observe the LGPD, with legal basis and purpose defined before collection.

HOW IT WORKS

Four stages between intent and movement.

The cycle below describes, in general terms, how wearable assistance systems typically operate. Specific parameters vary by manufacturer, model and configuration.

  1. 01

    Detect

Sensors identify the user's movement, posture and intent.

  2. 02

    Interpret

The system processes signals and determines the appropriate level of assistance.

  3. 03

    Assist

Actuators provide mechanical support during certain movements.

  4. 04

    Adapt

The system can adjust assistance according to usage pattern and environment.

We do not publish figures for precision, speed, battery life or performance without a verifiable public source from the manufacturer.

Let's assess together what makes sense for Brazil.

If you represent a manufacturer, a hospital, a university or a rehabilitation centre, we can set up a technical conversation about demonstrations and pilot projects.
